The Konlite VELA Series Turtle-Friendly 590nm Amber LED Parking Lot Light is a commercial-grade outdoor area light engineered for parking lots, roadways, campuses, parks, pedestrian areas, and other environmentally sensitive outdoor spaces. Featuring a true narrow-spectrum 590nm amber LED, it eliminates harmful blue-spectrum light associated with sea turtle and wildlife disorientation while providing safe, low-glare illumination for pedestrians and vehicles.

Designed for maximum flexibility, the VELA Series features field-selectable wattage, multiple optical distributions, and a variety of mounting options to suit new construction and retrofit projects. Its durable die-cast aluminum housing, corrosion-resistant finish, and fully sealed construction provide long-lasting performance in demanding coastal, municipal, and commercial environments.

Why is 590nm Amber Lighting Better for Sea Turtles?

Sea turtle hatchlings instinctively navigate toward the brightest horizon to reach the ocean, relying on natural cues such as moonlight and the nighttime sky. Because their vision is especially sensitive to short-wavelength blue and white light, artificial outdoor lighting can interfere with this natural behavior.

Conventional white LED fixtures often emit high levels of blue-spectrum light, which can confuse hatchlings and draw them away from the shoreline instead of toward the water. This disorientation can reduce their chances of survival during nesting and hatching seasons.

True 590nm amber LED lighting produces a narrow-band amber wavelength with virtually no blue-light emissions. By minimizing disruptive wavelengths, it helps support sea turtle-friendly lighting practices and reduces impacts on coastal wildlife while still providing effective, low-glare illumination for parking lots, pathways, boardwalks, and other beachfront outdoor spaces.
